Age Jongbloed: Senior Researcher in the field of nutritional physiology of livestock.

The team is experienced in both basic and applied animal nutritional physiology, using pic/chicken models in health and disease for testing antimicrobial alternatives to antibiotics. Both, in vitro tests and in vivo measurements of intestinal mass (mucosa, muscle), histological indices, epithelial cell dynamics, enzyme activities, cell protection systems (heat shock proteins, NOS, COX), antioxidant systems (SOD, catalase, glutathione), inflammatory cytokines. Also, nutrient digestion, endogenous protein losses, intestinal protein synthesis and metabolism can be measured.
