Project coordination Prof. Dr. Chlodwig FRANZ: Head of the Institute for Applied Botany and Pharmacognosy, responsible for structuring the research. Coordinator of two EU-funded research projects (FP4 and FP5).
The Institute of Applied Botany and Pharmacognosy concentrates its research mainly on biodiversity, genomics and postgenomics of plants producing secondary metabolites and the significance and use of functional plant products in medicine and nutrition. Structuring its research profile, one priority developed over the last years is the use of herbal (medicinal) products on animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.
Prof. Franz is President of the International Council for medicinal and aromatic plants (ICMAP). Additionally the clinic for poultry and pet birds provides its experience in in vivo testing to the project. The Institute for Nutrition will also actively support the activities in the project.
